The Socialist Group of Arrecife will propose that the city council support individual sports through a specific line of subsidies that support their training. The socialists will defend this proposal through a motion that will be defended in the plenary session this Thursday.
The councilor of the Socialist Group and head of the Sports area during part of the last legislature, Roy González, has argued that "in recent years, there has been a significant increase in individual athletes in Arrecife with great projection and it is essential to collaborate with them from the institutions so that they can financially face their participation in competitions." "Currently there is a potential and a technical capacity that must be promoted and that cannot be diminished by the lack of economic resources. The City Council must support them, their successes will be those of Arrecife."
González stresses that the support for individual sports activities "also reflects the city's commitment to health, well-being and the integral development of the community based on healthy habits."
The socialists point out that the City Council currently contemplates aid to develop sports activities focused solely on schools, sports entities and events, so the initiative aims to ensure that "individual athletes residing in our capital who compete outside our island also have municipal support."
