The PSOE of Teguise hopes that "the third time's the charm" and manages to annul several "toxic" banking operations that affect different financial swap contracts, known as swaps, and that were signed by the Teguise City Council and the Banco de Santander entity between the years 2006 and 2009.
According to the socialists, since 2013, the government group headed by Oswaldo Betancort has been trying to declare the nullity of said contracts and be able to demand from the financial entity the payment of the amounts paid at the time to the detriment of municipal interests.
Now, they point out that this Thursday, November 5, the initiation of the official review file of these banking contracts is taken "for the third time" to a plenary session, after two attempts in 2013 and 2017, which "unfortunately did not conclude because their processing was completed out of time."
The socialists affirm that, according to the documentation provided, the losses that these contracts have caused to the consistory are estimated "at more than 600,000 euros." The spokesperson for the PSOE, Marcos Bergaz, regrets that “while other City Councils such as Arrecife or San Bartolomé have already annulled similar contracts, with justice having given them the reason and recovering important public resources, in Teguise the government group is still beginning the procedures.”
“We hope for the interest of Teguise that this time the declaration of nullity can be completed and recover some economic resources that will be so good for the municipal coffers, but that will still take time,” concludes the socialist.
