"It is unacceptable that given the economic situation of the City Council, heavily indebted, and knowing the level of local unemployment, which is 565 people during the month of June, according to unemployment data, the first action of the Government Group is to increase the mayor's salary." That is the complaint raised by the socialist councilor Belén Morales, after the plenary session that approved the amount of allowances and salaries in the Consistory for this legislature on Monday.
According to the socialists, the mayor, Jesús Machín, has raised his salary and will receive 816.66 euros net more each month than in the previous term. With this increase, according to the PSOE, the mayor's salary is estimated annually at around 58,000 euros.
The socialists describe this decision to raise the mayor's salary as "irresponsible and harmful" to local coffers, "especially when municipal activity is completely stopped."
Two "trusted people"
Likewise, the PSOE of Tinajo rejects the hiring of two trusted people, since they consider that their work in the City Council is "unnecessary", and will mean an expense to the municipal accounts of about 50,515 euros per year. "Controlling spending is essential for a City Council that carries debts of up to 5,195,000 euros. This is 70 percent of the municipal budget," Morales criticizes.
The socialists of Tinajo demand that the CC government begin to "comply with its electoral program and apply the austerity policies that it promised to citizens during the campaign, "instead of making unjustified hiring and approving salary increases that do not correspond to the work done and indebt the residents."
