The X Congress of the Canarian Socialist Party in Lanzarote concluded this Sunday with the proclamation of the island Executive proposed by the island secretary, María Dolores Corujo, with the support of 96% of the delegates.
Corujo, who was accompanied by the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias; the president of the Canarian Government and general secretary of the PSOE of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres; the regional secretary of the PSOE, Nira Fierro, and the president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Gustavo Matos, highlighted "the profiles of a team of people that is characterized by their commitment to the defense of social rights and that is fully capable of offering the best answers to the challenges facing a 21st century society." "A team, Corujo continued, that has the enormous but exciting challenge of giving the best of itself to respond to the expectations of Lanzarote and the people of Lanzarote to arrive at the electoral appointment of 2023 with the best guarantees."
Thus, the newly elected island general secretary, Dolores Corujo, has stated that the objective of the Congress is to revalidate the position of strength of the PSOE in the next elections at all levels so that the Canary Islands "do not suffer again the curse of bad governments that it has suffered for years."
Corujo has promised coherence, honesty, empathy and justice and has said she is aware of the obligation her party has with the most vulnerable people.
In this sense, she has said that "the people" need a PSOE that is "strong, convinced and determined" to manage the administrations.
"I am terrified to think what would have happened if this pandemic had not been managed by a socialist government," said the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, who has vindicated the history of the PSOE and that of some former Lanzarote leaders, such as Carlos Espino, her chief of staff in the island corporation, who after suffering in her opinion "a persecution" have seen how all the "indecent" lawsuits against them were dismissed.
