The Socialist Party has accused the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, of "ruining" Black Friday in the capital due to a "poor planning" of the resurfacing works in some of its streets.
“From the party we are afraid that the mayor of this city will ruin all local commerce, and turn the streets of Arrecife into a cemetery of ruined businesses, it is as if he worked for the benefit of others,” said the PSOE councilor in Arrecife, Cristina Duque.
"This weekend had to be an important date for businesses in the island's capital, which have prepared with their offers to celebrate Black Friday, but what no merchant could imagine is that Yonathan de León would intensify the chaos of the city's works", as Duque commented.
The councilor makes it clear that "small merchants have found that every time there is a commercial action, the city council strives to make the entrance to the city more and more complicated."
"Just this Friday they have closed Juan Negrín, Triana, Portugal... just the weekend of Black Friday, as if these works could not wait to start on Monday", they highlighted. It should be noted that all these works "are preventing access to parking lots, the entry and exit of citizens", etc.
“We are very concerned seeing how sunk the merchants in the area are, they have to fight against large multinationals, and against a city council that only sabotages the entrance to the city, prevents traffic, does not communicate anything to the citizens, among many other things.” "It's as if De León was an employee of the shopping centers," Duque concludes.

And the PSOE recalls that "you cannot compete with anyone when they prevent traffic, close streets on strategic dates and eternalize works without caring about the consequences for merchants and neighbors."

The works that are being seen in Arrecife are an inheritance from the past legislature, where Loli Corujo as president and Astrid Pérez as mayor, designed a "development and transformation plan" for the city. “All this man had to do was plan the works correctly, and report the changes, instead he has dedicated himself to taking photos and sinking the city into circulatory chaos,” Duque added.
