The Popular Party of Lanzarote has rejected "forcefully" the installation of a "provisional" immigrant identification center in Arrecife, specifically in Puerto Naos, right in front of the National Police station. In a statement, the populars state that they have learned of this intention from the Ministry of the Interior through the Government Delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, and have expressed "their strongest rejection of such an idea, given that the proposal for said location interferes with the commercial, tourist and social life of all the inhabitants of Arrecife, the capital of the island."
The Lanzarote PP Steering Committee maintains that "on the island there are other possible locations and land belonging to the State that are much more suitable and safe for the installation of said 'provisional' center”, which is being created with prefabricated modules.
The populars allege that "the lack of foresight of the Ministry of the Interior in the face of the deficit of national police officers on the island of Lanzarote, since we are below the optimal ratio, should not be a reason for the immigrant center to be located next to the National Police Station with the aim of taking advantage of the agents assigned there and carrying out identification work on migrants".
Finally, the Popular Party of Lanzarote hopes that "the Ministry of the Interior of the Government of Spain will know how to put the interests of the citizens of Arrecife before the lack of management in immigration matters that is its responsibility”.
