The councilor of the Popular Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Jacobo Medina, and councilor and president of the PP of Tías, Kiko Aparicio, have requested that Aena and Turismo Lanzarote arbitrate measures to help and assist the many people who have been affected this past weekend by the flight cancellations and large delays caused by the visibility problems in the flight operations of the César Manrique Lanzarote airport.
It should be remembered that among the many affected are a large group of elderly people in wheelchairs.
The Popular Party believes that, in the face of this type of situation, the Cabildo and Turismo Lanzarote must maintain an active attitude through a coordination plan in which the three large tourist municipalities of the island also participate, such as Tías, Teguise and Yaiza.
In this sense, the also candidate for Mayor of Tías, Kiko Aparicio, considers that "the most important thing is that in the face of this type of situation, the affected passengers, including the elderly, vulnerable people or those with reduced mobility, can receive the assistance they require."
Aparicio points out that the current regulations do not contemplate that, due to force majeure, as in this case, airlines are obliged to offer assistance and accommodation to passengers.
For this reason, since last night, many people have been sleeping on the floor inside the César Manrique airport due to the cancellation of many flights due to the adverse and atypical weather situation that has been experienced since Sunday at the Lanzarote Airport.
