The Popular Party of Haría has once again insisted on the "need for the municipal government to reinforce the staff of the Local Police, which has been dragging an important deficit of agents for some time". The local president of the Populars, David Álvarez, points out that with "nine agents, who are currently on staff, it is only possible to maintain the ordinary morning and afternoon shifts".
“With such a tight staff, with vacations and any sick leave that may occur, it is evident the difficulties that exist to adequately fulfill any extraordinary circumstance that may occur”, says Álvarez, who regrets that Haría "did not take advantage during the previous term of the framework agreement for cooperation between local entities and the Government of the Canary Islands in matters of personnel selection for access to the Local Police Forces, which would have allowed to speed up public employment procedures and fill vacancies".
For the Populars, the municipal leaders have been "failing to place security among the government's priorities" for years and “without worrying or taking care to see how the service can be improved, including the implementation of night shifts”. “No matter how much collaboration exists and good will that the Civil Guard agents put into it, who are in charge of coverage from ten o'clock at night, this body also has its own limitations to cover the different municipalities”, acknowledges David Álvarez.
From the PP they understand that "the population growth that the municipality has experienced during the last ten years and the volume of floating population that is concentrated during the summer, require an important reinforcement of the Local Police". “It is sad to see, for example, how summer arrives and the towns cannot even celebrate their traditional festivals because there are no staff available”, points out Álvarez.
