The popular also criticize that when the garbage is removed there are remains and spills, without "washing" or "disinfecting", and that "the collection of household goods at home" has been canceled.

The councilors of the Popular Party of Yaiza, Juan Monzón and Guayo Rodríguez, denounce the "deficient garbage collection service" that is being provided in the municipality and, above all, in the town of Playa Blanca, where "a regrettable image of the tourist destination is being left".

The popular point out how every day there are signs that "the service that is currently being provided is not adequate", with container areas overflowing throughout the day and "full of remains and spills" when the garbage is removed. "A situation that requires washing and disinfection that is not carried out, causing bad odors and unhealthy conditions that are aggravated by high temperatures and that are a breeding ground for all types of pests", they add.

"Another symptom of the precariousness of the service is the cancellation of the collection of household goods at home because the company providing the service has refused to continue with it, so it is the City Council's own operators who go to the container areas to collect them", says the municipal spokesperson, Juan Monzón, who states that there are many complaints from residents because they are not given an answer and lack transportation to go to the clean point.

Contract award in limbo

It should be remembered that the City Council must re-tender the contract for the concession of services for the collection and transport of urban solid waste and other waste from the municipality, after the previous public tender was annulled after one of the companies excluded from the tender appealed the municipal decision to award it to FCC. An appeal that had the favorable opinion of the Canary Islands Contracts Tribunal.

The City Council then decided not to file a contentious-administrative appeal with the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands against said ruling, in order to avoid prolonging the new tender and its resolution.

"It is here where the question arises as to what is happening and why, after more than two years, this new tender seems to have fallen into limbo, with the Oscar Noda government being unable to carry out the procedure during an entire term of office", emphasizes Juan Monzón.
