The Port Authority of Las Palmas and the Arrecife City Council, in Lanzarote, have signed this Thursday morning an agreement by which Puertos de Las Palmas freely transfers to the municipal council the heritage sidewalks and roads of the Port Authority in order to incorporate them into the municipal urban road network.

Specifically, these are three urban lands; the first of them, of 3,489.79 m2 formed by roads and sidewalks that surround the heritage plots owned by the Port Authority, such as the west sidewalk and road of Mastelero street, the south sidewalk and road of Escotilla street, the road and sidewalks of Timón street, the sidewalks and road of Velacho street and part of the garden until reaching the north sidewalk of Rambla Medular, and the north sidewalk of Rambla Medular that borders the plot where the National Police building is located.

The second of the lands is made up of two plots that measure 1,745.42 m2 in total and include the west sidewalk of Avenida de Naos and part of a road. Likewise, in third place, the Port Authority transfers an urban land of 2,986.74m2, made up of the east, west and road sidewalk of Avenida Olof Palme, as well as the east sidewalk of Juan de Quesada street until it meets said avenue to the north.

With the signing of this document, the Arrecife City Council is responsible for the tasks of surveillance, legal protection, defense, administration, conservation, maintenance and other actions required for the correct use and utilization of the transferred properties.

For her part, after the signing, the president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Beatriz Calzada, pointed out that this fulfills the City Council's request for the free transfer of these heritage real estate assets, as agreed in the Board of Directors of the Port Authority held on November 7, 2022. "We have fulfilled a commitment that the Port Authority had acquired. From today, and after being de-affected, these public spaces are part of the municipal heritage of Arrecife. We will continue on the path of transferring all those lands that no longer have port utility and that are requested by the city councils," she said.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, highlights that "the transfer of these roads and spaces comes at an important time for Arrecife as there are urban actions planned in these areas." The mayor recalled that this transfer had been waiting for some time and has been able to materialize now in this mandate. De León Machín thanked the president of the Port Authority for the speed shown in achieving the signing of this transfer today. "From the City Council we can execute works and improvements when the public space belongs to us. Improvements that will be launched in these coming months within the Municipal Investment Plans," he asserted.
