The Lanzarote Island Issues Survey 2024, conducted by the Cabildo de Lanzarote through its Data Center, is a complete document that also addresses the information habits of the population of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. According to this study, the digital press leads as the main source of news, reflecting the transition towards the digitization of the media on the island.
With a resounding 72%, the digital press is the most used medium by respondents to stay informed. This data reaffirms the growing role of online platforms as the main way to access news.
To this trend is added the use of social networks, which reach 59% preference among the inhabitants of Lanzarote, consolidating as a key space for the rapid dissemination of information. This medium is especially popular among young people, with 79% pointing to it as their main source.
Traditional media maintain their relevance
Despite the rise of digital platforms, traditional media continue to play an important role. More than half of the respondents (51%) turn to local or regional television to stay informed, especially among those over 65 years of age, where it reaches 64%.
Radio, whether in conventional format or via the internet, also maintains a significant position among the information preferences of the inhabitants of Lanzarote and Graciosa. On the other hand, direct contact and personal interactions remain relevant, with 46% of respondents mentioning conversations as one of their usual sources of information.
In contrast, the written press in physical format is the least used by the inhabitants of the island, with only 25% choosing it as a means of information. This data underlines the impact of digitization and changes in news consumption habits in recent years.
An X-ray of the island society
The Lanzarote Island Issues Survey 2024 was carried out between October 14 and November 8, 2024 through structured telephone interviews (CATI system), and covered a sample of 700 people over 18 years of age residing in Lanzarote and La Graciosa. The margin of error of the study is ±3.7%, with a confidence level of 95%.
Designed and supervised by the Data Center of the Cabildo de Lanzarote managed by Councilor Ascensión Toledo, and executed by the company Cotesa, this research provides a broad X-ray of the island society.
