The works of the new and modern Drug Addiction and Addictions Care Center (CAD) of Lanzarote, located on Andalucía Street in Arrecife, have already been completed. This morning, the Minister of Social Welfare of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Isabel Martín, and the Minister of Public Works, Jacobo Medina, visited these new facilities, whose works, carried out by the awarded company Hormiconsa Canarias S.A., have involved an investment of close to 220,000 euros.

The head of Social Welfare, Isabel Martín, was extremely pleased that "finally, Lanzarote can have more spacious, modern and comfortable infrastructures to serve, in optimal conditions and with much more privacy, the users of this care center for drug addicts and other addictions."

This important action, as pointed out by the Minister of Public Works, Jacobo Medina, "is part of the Social Health Investment Plan of the Island Council, whose objective is to improve and expand the network of social health services on our island, such as this new CAD, the La Graciosa Day Center, or the new Center for Elders, located in Tahiche."

The new building, intended for the Addictions Care Unit, has 451.97 m² of surface area and houses an area dedicated to the pharmacy, individualized dispensing areas, repackaging, sampling and handling, toilets, two multipurpose and polyvalent rooms, waiting room, warehouse and a large administration area.

The Minister of the area of Social Welfare, Isabel Martín, detailed that "last year we attended to 1,184 people in the CAD, where we not only work with drug addicts, but also with people who have behavioral addictions, such as gambling."

In this case, and during confinement," continues Martín, "we have detected, especially among the youngest, a considerable increase in the consumption of online games, but also an increase in the consumption of alcohol and new patients with dual pathology associated with consumption and depressive disorders."

It should be noted that the new Drug Addiction and Addictions Care Center, under the direction of Dr. Rosa Torres, will have health professionals such as three psychologists, two doctors, a pharmacist, a nurse and a nursing assistant, as well as two social workers and a pedagogue.
