The Management of Health Services of Lanzarote has launched a pilot project of video consultations in the Neurology, Dermatology and Psychiatry Services. The implementation of this project, according to the Ministry of Health, is due to the exceptional circumstances generated by Covid-19 that discourage the concentration of people in the waiting rooms of health centers, while trying to overcome telephone consultations that have been carried out since March.

As detailed, this system allows the connection by video call between the doctor who connects to his equipment from the hospital and the patient who can connect from a computer or a mobile phone. The session is carried out with an application that guarantees communication between the doctor and the patient "safely throughout the process." To this end, and in advance, the patient is informed of the date and time of the consultation, and is advised that they will receive a message with instructions on how to carry out the video consultation and the link to follow to establish contact with the doctor.

The manager of the Lanzarote Health Services, José Luis Aparicio, assures that "most patients accept telephone consultations well, but they miss being able to see their doctor and that the specialist can observe them." "The video call consultation aims to improve telephone consultations and facilitate visual contact", he points out

Patient monitoring complement

The Ministry of Health considers that this system, in the pilot phase, is "a valuable complement to monitor the health status of patients, treatments and even revisions in the case of chronic diseases."

In this regard, he points out that "specialists rely on this tool to monitor many of their patients, especially in these exceptional circumstances caused by Covid-19."
