The staff of the minor centers of Lanzarote elected the members of their Works Council last Tuesday, October 16, a body of collective representation whose purpose will be to "participate and claim in a unitary way".
Until now, according to Zaida González, member of the Works Council, the minor centers of the island lacked this body, there being simply two company delegates. For this reason, it was decided to form "a committee at the level of all the centers", which belong to the Department of Social Welfare of the Cabildo, but are managed by the Fundación Respuesta Social Siglo XXI company.

The only candidacy that was presented was that of CCOO and the Works Council will be made up of five members, one for each minor center on the island, which are César Manrique, Timanfaya, the Arrecife Minor Center, the Tinajo one, and the Yaiza emergency device. In addition to Zaida González, it is made up of Gustavo Falcón Rodríguez, Vanessa del C. Arrocha and Elías Pérez and as alternate Mª Cathaysa Lemes. CCOO supervised and guaranteed the entire process, with the transfer to the island of the head of the Community Services Area, Laura Saz.
The objectives of the Works Council, according to Zaida González, will be to "ensure that the agreements are respected" as well as "the labor rights of the workers". In addition, they intend to "contribute ideas" and transfer their needs to the new reality that is being experienced with the arrival of numerous minors in a boat to the island.
