The president of the Lanzarote Chamber of Commerce, José Torres Fuentes, describes the central government as "irresponsible" for its abandonment in the matter of air traffic controllers and recalls that this is not a new situation but a problem that has been happening for about ten years.

Aetur, Asolan and the Chamber of Commerce have joined together to "describe the group of controllers as criminals." They consider that this is a serious damage to the economy of Lanzarote "the tourist companies of the island were happily waiting for this bridge to improve some accounts that are already very damaged", explain the businessmen, "so this collapse is a serious blow to the tourism industry".

Aetur and Asolan have requested the dismissal of all air traffic controllers and demand the privatization of the service of a group "that the Government itself has described as criminals", they declare.

Coincidentally, the leader of the opposition, Mariano Rajoy, was in Lanzarote and has been blocked and unable to fly due to this collapse. For tourism entrepreneurs, this is a 'pleasant coincidence' since Rajoy has been able to learn first-hand about the situation that Canarians experience every time an incident of this type occurs.

"For other tourist destinations, air blockades are not so serious, since they have alternative means of transport, however in the Canary Islands, whoever does not arrive by plane, does not arrive", explains the president of the Chamber, José Torres Fuentes.

For all these reasons, the two tourism business associations and the business institution demand that the central government solve this matter once and for all since "it is solely responsible for what is happening here", they conclude.
