During these days, soldiers from the Infantry Regiment “Soria” 9 of the BRICAN XVI will carry out land patrols at different strategic points in Lanzarote. These tasks are aimed at reinforcing surveillance, deterring possible threats and guaranteeing the security of land spaces under national sovereignty on the island.

This activity is integrated into the set of Permanent Operations, one of the main contributions of the Armed Forces (FAS) to National Security in times of peace. These missions underscore the commitment of the FAS to the integral defense of the territory and its capacity to anticipate any eventuality that could compromise stability.

The deployment in Lanzarote not only allows effective surveillance of the environment, but also facilitates a greater understanding of the terrain and the social reality of the island. In addition, it promotes the integration of the military into the local community and strengthens the link between the Armed Forces and the citizens.

Lieutenant General Julio Salom Herrera, head of the Canary Islands Command of the Army, serves as Commander of the Land Operational Command (CMOT), being responsible for planning these presence and surveillance operations, not only in the Canary Islands, but also in Ceuta, Melilla and the Balearic Islands, maintaining constant coordination with the competent civil and military authorities.
