The judge of Telde decrees prison for bribery to the ten civil guards arrested for illegal collections at the airport

The ten civil guards from the customs post at Gran Canaria airport arrested this week for alleged illegal collections, have been charged with bribery, forgery of a public document and omission of the duty to prosecute crimes. The judge of Telde who is investigating the case has ordered provisional imprisonment, communicated and without bail, for all of them, while the proceedings remain under summary secrecy.

The civil guards had appeared in court this morning. Most of the agents were taken before dawn to the court of first instance number 1 of Telde, waiting for its owner to take their statement.

The agents were arrested on Tuesday after hidden cameras at the airport recorded their alleged criminal activities, which consisted of convincing travelers of different nationalities, especially Moroccans, Koreans and Arab countries who did not understand the Spanish language, that in order to speed up customs procedures in matters of baggage control or declaration of currency for introduction into Spain, it was necessary for them to provide them with amounts of money.

The accusation against the detained civil guards and now at the disposal of the court is the continuous performance of activities that could constitute crimes of bribery and coercion as well as money laundering, document forgery, theft and omission of the duty to prosecute crimes. The police operation was organized by the Civil Guard itself, which set up a device in order to locate the allegedly corrupt agents.
