The Island Executive of the PSOE ratifies the candidates for Parliament and the list for the Arrecife City Council

"The candidate for the presidency of the Government, Juan Fernando López Aguilar, had expressed his intention that Manuel Fajardo be the candidate for Parliament", recalled Miguel González, Secretary of Communication of the Socialist Party of Lanzarote. The current general secretary of the party on the island is accompanied in the proposal approved in the Island Executive Committee, held on Thursday afternoon, by names such as Marcial Martín, Olivia Cedrés, Belén Morales, Miguel González and José Juan Cruz.

"The election system has consisted of a proposal from the local groups, which has been ratified by the Socialist Party of Lanzarote and now the regional body is in charge of ordering those names", commented the Secretary of Communication. This ordering of the proposal to be made by the Regional Committee will take place during this weekend in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

During the session of the Island Executive Committee, information was also provided on the candidacies for the town councils that had been pending approval in the previous session. These electoral lists belong to the municipalities of Yaiza, Haría, Tinajo and Arrecife. "The case of the latter is different because as it is a city of more than 50,000 inhabitants, the party has a special regulation, which consists of the candidacy passing to a Special List Commission, which has been created in the Canary Islands, which has to give the go-ahead to the proposal", explained Miguel González, although he is confident that there will be no changes to it.

Thus, the candidacy of the Socialist Party for the Arrecife City Council will be headed, as was already known, by Enrique Pérez Parrilla, followed by Víctor Betancort, Loly Rodríguez, Marcos Bergaz, Fayna Álamo, Miguel Ángel Ferrer, María Isabel Pereyra and Alberto Morales.

In Haría, the PSOE's proposal will be headed by José Pérez Dorta, from Alternativa Democrática, and followed by Alejandro Perdomo, under the electoral agreement signed between the Socialist Party and this formation. For the Town Council of Yaiza, the current national deputy, Olivia Cedrés, will be the head of the list, followed by the current councillor, Marcial Valiente. And finally, in Tinajo, the socialist assembly has elected Fefo Nieves as candidate for mayor of the municipality.

The Secretary of Communication of the Socialist Party of Lanzarote has also advanced some of the basic lines that will mark the electoral program. "It will revolve around what the PSOE's island policy has always revolved around, which is the protection of the territory and measures to prevent urban growth", he explained.

"From there, we will also have specific programs on the improvement of Public Health, the improvement of Public Education, economic issues, such as lowering the cost of the shopping basket, etc.". Miguel González also commented that he hopes that by mid-March it will be possible to present an advance of this electoral program.
