The Paradise Island complex, which has requested the Yaiza Town Council to cede a plot of green land for the construction of a "theme park", was denounced in August 2008 by the entity Club Lanzarote S.A. for occupying land owned by them as well as green land, owned by the municipality, with a water pipe. It should also be remembered that this hotel already occupies municipal land, which was ceded to it by the then mayor of Yaiza, José Francisco Reyes. On this land there are private sports courts and even a miniature golf course belonging to the hotel.

Regarding the pipe, in a letter that Club Lanzarote sent to the Yaiza Town Council and to which La Voz has had access, it is stated that "employees of the Paradise Island Hotel were proceeding with the installation" of this infrastructure, "crossing a ravine, a municipal green area and several streets belonging to Club Lanzarote".

The Town Council of Yaiza has confirmed that it did register this complaint, which it forwarded to Public Health and the Island Water Consortium. However, the Consortium claims to be unaware of the existence of this file, despite the fact that La Voz has the entry record of this letter in the Island Water Council of Lanzarote on September 12, 2008.

Attached to this document is also a report prepared by the channel surveillance personnel of this body, which reflects how they verified that this pipe, 30 centimeters wide and one kilometer long, was installed on public land without "any authorization" from the Island Council of Waters of Lanzarote.

From the southern Town Council they have now assured La Voz that "they believe that pipe was removed", although sources from Club Lanzarote deny it and claim that it is still installed on this land. They claim that what has been done is to "cover it", since it was previously visible and is now not.

"They lacked permission"

At the time, Club Lanzarote requested the presence of a Municipal Police officer from Yaiza, who asked the Paradise Island workers for "the municipal permit to undertake said work". "They lacked it and, therefore, they were ordered to stop the work", it is explained in the document. From Club Lanzarote they assured that despite this police requirement, the installation of the pipe was completed and put into operation.

According to this letter, the purpose of placing this pipe was "the connection of a water treatment plant, located in a green area, and which had been invaded and fenced off by the hotel". "That part of said water treatment plant does not have the relevant industrial and sanitary permits to be able to supply water, endangering the health of the clients who may stay in said hotel", denounced this company.

In this letter, Club Lanzarote requested the Council to remove this pipe, to "restore the green areas to their original reality" and to "prevent the use of said area and the ravines located there for private facilities". Something that the company claims has never been done.
