The acting Minister of Public Works and Transport of the Government of the Canary Islands, Juan Ramón Hernández, has signed an order approving the first phase of the Sanitation Analysis Project of Tinajo, according to the Ministry in a statement.
In the same order, Hernández authorizes the start of the contracting procedure for the works, which, with a maximum bidding budget of 2,717,264 euros, will be awarded in the ordinary way, through an open procedure and with several criteria, according to the Ministry.
The works included in the project have been divided into three sections: general network for collecting wastewater from homes by gravity, pumping stations and pumping network.
Disconnected area
The order originates from the fact that several population centers in the municipality of Tinajo currently lack networks for the evacuation of sewage, so they continue to eliminate it through septic tanks and cesspools.
To correct this situation, the Ministry of Public Works is processing the project for the installation of a network of general collectors that connects the nuclei of the municipality with the existing sanitation network, as well as with the Wastewater Treatment Plant, WWTP, of La Santa.
Currently, only the nucleus of La Santa and the La Santa Sport sports complex have a sewage system for black water. Both sectors are connected to the La Santa WWTP, which has a state-of-the-art ultrafiltration system for water treatment.
The project launched by Public Works will initially serve a population of about 6,000 inhabitants, although the network has been designed with a 20-year perspective and for an estimated population of 18,000 inhabitants.
This action is part of the collaboration agreement on Water matters signed between the Government of the Canary Islands and the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs. In this first phase of the project, the main network will be installed.
