The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has given the green light this Friday to the draft Regulations for users of regular interurban passenger transport, a document that defines "the rights and duties of the beneficiaries of the regular public transport service and those of the company holding the service concession, and establishes the sanctioning regime for possible infractions."

“We continue to promote improvements in the collective transport service through a regulation that will provide confidence and compliance with the rights of travelers,” said the president of the First Island Institution, María Dolores Corujo.

Integrating regulation

The draft regulation approved this Friday also regulates the transport in the cabin of the bus of small domestic animals whose weight does not exceed 10 kilos, always under the custody of the person carrying them or, if it exceeds 10 kg, on those lines that have a hold, "under their entire and exclusive responsibility, and while the cargo capacity of the hold allows it." Transport must be in carriers, in both cases, both rigid and flexible, that are closed and secure.

In this regard, the Minister of Transport of the First Island Institution, Marcos Bergaz, considered that “the quality of the public bus service also requires capturing the rights and obligations of the parties in a document that will have the mandatory citizen participation process.”

The draft Regulations for users of regular interurban passenger transport will be submitted to debate during the next Plenary Session of the Corporation. If approved, it will be subject to public display for one month “so that citizens can make as many allegations, suggestions and proposals as they consider to enrich the text.”
