The Area of Seniors and Intergenerational Relations of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, led by Nori Machín, has launched a new initiative called Ponte en Marcha, within the Active Rejuvenation Plan +Vital that began this April with "great acceptance among the elderly on the island."
The president, Oswaldo Betancort, explains that "from the Cabildo we have a clear objective and that is to take care of our elders, attend to their needs and demands and make them participants in the different activities that we are launching, in this case in collaboration with the municipalities and senior citizens' associations on the island."
"Together with the Playa Fit and Senior Test programs, where more than two hundred seniors enjoy physical activities on our beaches and with evaluations of their functional health, we now add a new activity, 'Ponte en Marcha', with guided hiking routes so that our seniors can enjoy our natural environment and our cultural and historical heritage, while staying active," adds Betancort.
In this sense, the Councilor for Seniors and Intergenerational Relations, Nori Machín, highlights that "the objective of the Ponte en Marcha program is to improve the quality of life of people over 60 years of age. Through these walks, which are island-wide, our seniors will enjoy a healthy leisure time, while creating the habit of going out for a walk and discovering the richness of our island."
The routes, which will be between 2.5 and 4 kilometers, will have interpreted stops to delve into the history of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, as well as other aspects such as the island's flora and fauna or the cultural and environmental heritage. The biologist and founder of Senderismo Lanzarote, Ignacio Romero, explains that "the first walk will be held on April 27 in La Degollada, in Yaiza, and will continue during the coming months in the rest of the municipalities to conclude on the island of La Graciosa" "Each route will address a different theme, including the culture of water, historical figures of the island, volcanic phenomena or artisanal farming methods," concludes Romero.
