The first hours of the general strike day have passed without any incidents in Lanzarote, as confirmed by Ramón Pérez Farray from Comisiones Obreras.
However, the informative pickets have taken to the streets since 5:45 a.m., as explained by the unionist. One of the places where they have been present has been at the bus station in Arrecife. "We went to see if those who were leaving were the minimum services, and they were," Pérez Farray assured.
Likewise, the informative pickets have also been at the port of Arrecife where, according to Pérez Farray, only ships containing perishable goods have unloaded. "The rest, I imagine, will have to wait until tomorrow," he added. The airport is another point where the unions have gone.
"On the island there is a lot of job insecurity and that makes many not go on strike. Also, in many places, as we know from some stores on Calle Real, workers are coerced. And we are here for that, to inform and try to get them to go on strike," says Pérez Farray, while recalling the demonstration scheduled for 6 p.m., departing from Calle Real.
In Lanzarote, the unions do not yet have data on the follow-up of the strike. In the Canary Islands, UGT estimates participation at 70 percent.
