The General Directorate of Water of the Government of the Canary Islands has transferred 2.51 million euros to the Cabildo de Lanzarote for the works carried out on the tanks and impulsion of the "Desalination Regulation of Arrecife".
According to the General Director of Water, Orlando Umpiérrez, this transfer culminates the return of the credit agreed upon in its day between the two institutions for the realization of the aforementioned works.
The Arrecife desalination plant is an infrastructure that has a novel technology and a production capacity of 20,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day through the internal osmosis system. Its start-up has made it possible to guarantee the water supply for the entire Island in recent years.
In addition, while it has increased the availability of water resources in Lanzarote, it has substantially improved the quality of the water supplied.
On the other hand, the construction of the Arrecife desalination plant is an example of the effectiveness that collaboration between the different administrations can have, which in this case has made it possible to speed up the works, according to the statement from the Government of the Canary Islands.
In this line, it should be remembered that its execution has been pre-financed by the Island Council, which now receives the money it has invested from the Autonomous Community and the State, as the desalination plant is a work contemplated in the National Hydrological Plan (NHP).
