The spokesman for the César Manrique Foundation, Alfredo Díaz, has appealed this Monday to the "awareness" and "coherence" of the PSOE regarding the Land Law project being processed by the Government of the Canary Islands, where the socialists govern together with CC. Díaz has pointed out that there are "sensibilities within the PSOE that are in a completely opposite tune to what the law itself proposes" and has stated that the formation should "speak out in one direction or another". In fact, this same Monday the party has organized an event on this law in Arrecife, with Faustino García Márquez as speaker, who is one of the main representatives of the Platform against this law.
"Perhaps there is a problem of coherence. I believe that there is a problem of awareness, of true awareness and of commitment and responsibility. We fill our mouths with words like sustainable development and simply what we have to talk about is responsible development. A law that proposes what this project proposes certainly has very little responsibility", Díaz stated on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.
The FCM is part of the Platform that has been created throughout the Canary Islands against this Land Law. Less than a month ago, it presented this platform at its headquarters, in an event that was in fact attended by socialist officials such as the party's island secretary, María Dolores Corujo, and the mayor of Arrecife, Eva de Anta. The members of the PSOE, however, did not stand behind the banner when the official photo of the parties, unions and groups that support this platform was taken. Now, in addition to announcing that they have created a working table, Díaz has invited them to join. "All those who have that sensitivity and truly believe that this is a real threat to the future of these islands will be welcome, whether it is the PSOE or whoever", he said.
They must resolve their "internal issues" and speak out
Alfredo Díaz has also alluded to the divisions that this bill has generated in the Canarian Socialist Party, since while some organic positions have positioned themselves against it, figures such as the vice president of the regional Executive have given it their approval, in her case in the Governing Council of which she is a part with her CC partners. "It is true that the PSOE has it a bit complicated because it is also in the Government group, but those are internal issues that they will have to resolve", Díaz pointed out, emphasizing that they must "speak out".
Thus, he said that although "logic" indicates that if the project initiated the parliamentary process, the PSOE would give its support to its partner and vote in favor, "you never know". "Let's wait and see what happens", he said.
"We must be attentive and we must seek the commitment and positive complicity of all Canarians who truly love this land and who think that a future is possible precisely by diversifying the economy, understanding that we are in a fragile territory and that land is certainly not a commodity", Díaz pointed out, who points out that this "undoubtedly" involves that request for "coherence and awareness" to the PSOE.
