The Emergency Consortium carried out 1,097 services in 2022, 6% more than those completed in 2021. This was reported in the presentation of the 2022 Security and Emergency Consortium Report. The president of the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium, Marcos Bergaz, attended this event, accompanied by the Fire Department and the Consortium manager, Enrique Espinosa.

During the presentation, a breakdown and explanation of the data in the Report was carried out, during which Bergaz took the opportunity to thank the Fire Department for the "involvement, work and effort they make every day of the year" and made a comparison with data from previous years.

Of the services, 347 were related to fire extinguishing, 156 to traffic accidents and 187 rescues, which includes humanitarian aid to people from boats from the African continent.

"It is important to highlight that there has been a 92.5% increase in interventions in traffic accidents, compared to the percentage that was recorded last year. Another aspect in which the data increased was in the burning of urban waste containers, going from 62 interventions to 113," Bergaz detailed.

"There have been 113 services related to container fires, affecting a total of 234 units and with an economic loss of approximately 280,000 euros, in acts that we condemn and that has led to the arrest of several people," Bergaz added.

The councilor also addressed the issue of prevention "in which we have insisted throughout 2022 with numerous campaigns and training actions to make the saying 'prevention is better than cure' a reality, as our elders say, and it is perfectly applicable in the field of security and emergencies."

To conclude, he thanked "the commitment and professionalism of the fire department and Consortium staff, which has allowed us to develop more than a thousand services in 2022 for and for security in Lanzarote and La Graciosa."
