The dining room of the Nieves Toledo school, in the Arrecife neighborhood of Valterra, seems that it will not open its doors next year. And it is that, while from the City Council they point out that these works, framed within Plan E, are already "finished", lacking the furniture that is the responsibility of the Ministry of Education, from the regional Executive they affirm that the works are not finished and that the dining room "will take a long time".
A father of a student of the center conveyed this week his concern to La Voz de Lanzarote about the situation of the dining room, stating that the works "had been paralyzed for several days due to the lack of furniture" and that he did not know, therefore, if the dining room was going to open its doors for the next course. "They told us that the City Council did not have a budget for the furniture," he says.
From the City Council, the Councilor for Education, Lorenzo Lemaur, affirms that the works "are not paralyzed, but finished", and that "the installation of the furniture is the responsibility of the Ministry of Education". To this he adds that the Ministry "has not included the school in the budgets for the next course", so the dining room "will not be able to open its doors" when classes begin.
In this way, Lemaur points out that, as a possible solution, he transferred to the School Council of the Nieves Toledo school to present a formal proposal to the City Council, so that it can take charge of the furniture expenses and thus open its doors. However, he assures that, for the moment, they have not received "any proposal".
This version given by the Arrecife City Council differs from the one offered by the Ministry of Education itself. And it is that the insular director of Education, Juan Cruz, affirms that the works "are not finished", since "they are not received and the electrical installation is missing". Thus, he adds, "the works will not be finished until December" and then it will be necessary to make "an agreement with the City Council", so "it will take a long time".
What seems to be clear is that if the dining room of the Nieves Toledo school continues like this, it will not be able to open its doors next year, despite the fact that, according to a father of a student of the center, the school has already "informed the parents to start early reception in September". "In the end they throw the ball at each other and September will arrive and we will continue the same", he has criticized.
