The delay in payroll payments once again jeopardizes waste collection

Waste collection workers belonging to the companies of Camilo Álvarez Sánchez (CAS Group) have once again had problems receiving their salaries, as happened just two months ago. These salaries have been delayed until November 10 in the case of Costa Teguise workers (belonging to Caseur, a company of the same group), as well as for half of the Zonzamas workforce, which also depends on the CAS Group. In the Villa de Teguise, the waste collection workers of the company Salimpa, also belonging to Camilo Álvarez Sánchez, did not receive their salaries until November 7, carrying out a 48-hour work stoppage that began on the 5th and ceased as soon as the workers received their remuneration.

Some delays in the collection of salaries caused by "economic problems" that the company does not finish specifying, and that has been dragging on for several months.

"They do not give us explanations for the delays, although due to the pressure we have managed to get paid again, although late. I spoke with the head of personnel, who is in Las Palmas, and he could not tell us anything either", says Ermenegildo Perdomo, representative of the workers of the Villa de Teguise, who were finally the only ones who carried out a work stoppage for not receiving their salaries on the 5th of the month, the deadline they have established by agreement so that, in case the salaries are not received, the workers can carry out the work stoppage without prior notice. The workers of Tinajo, who barely number three, did not carry out this stoppage despite belonging to the same company, since they did receive their salaries without delays.

On the other hand, in the town of Costa Teguise, the workers of Caseur, another of the companies belonging to the CAS Group, also received their salaries late, although they did not join the work stoppage as there is no agreement with prior notice of strike signed. "The same thing has happened to us as to the workers of other municipalities, although we did not go on strike, since we do not yet have the prior notice included in our agreement. We have been asking for some time for our agreements to be equated to those of the workers of Tinajo and the Villa de Teguise, who do have this protocol established", explained Juan Antonio Bernal, representative of the Caseur workers' committee.

"There is indeed a prior notice of strike by which, every time the 6th of the month arrives and the salary payments have not been received, the workers are fully entitled to call the strike without prior notice", declared the Councilor of the Canarian Coalition of the City Council of Teguise, Domingo Cejas, who expressed his concern about "a situation that has happened again and that must be solved", since two months ago the workers returned to live a situation like the current one, with the difference that most of them had received the salary except for a few.

"This company works in four more municipalities and the work stoppage has only occurred in Teguise. The workers are within their rights, but we must prevent this from happening again", says the councilor, who promised to raise the case in the next plenary session of the Council "to take measures to prevent the repetition of these episodes".

The president of the Clusa, Danigal and Daorje Ute Company Committee, Antonio González, explained that "the problem that the workers of Tinajo, the Villa de Teguise and Costa Teguise have is the same, since they are companies that are interrelated, all belonging to the same CAS Group". González recalled that in municipalities such as Arinaga (Gran Canaria) they are on an indefinite strike for the same reason, as are those of Telde, who have also decided to join a strike in which non-payment or delays in payrolls are the common denominator. "If it happens again we will have to reach the work stoppage, this time we did not want to do it to wait for the Cabildo to pressure the company, but this should not happen again," said Antonio González.
