Although the mayor Miguel Martín took pains to say during the plenary session held yesterday that he was governing in minority, the vote of the two councilors of the Party of Independents of Lanzarote (PIL) and the two of the Canarian Coalition (CC) made it clear that the mayor was not as alone as he might have thought. Candelaria Ledesma, spokesperson for the PIL, in a recess of the plenary session, assured that the councilors of both formations had already asked the mayor to join the government group, and that he in turn had also requested their immediate entry. In this way, the reissue of the pact between PIL, CC, Canarian Nationalist Center (CCN) and Popular Party is a fact.

The four councilors of PIL and CC voted in the direction marked by the mayor together with his partner from CCN, José Manuel Morales, and the three councilors of the Popular Party. On paper, Martín had five votes from the plenary session, but in reality there were nine, and even up to ten because Olimpia Martín from the Nationalist Party of Lanzarote (PNL) supported the "government group" in several points.

Juan Antonio de la Hoz, spokesperson for CC, who defended Miguel Martín as the "most serious person in this Corporation", did not openly confirm the consolidation of the new pact in San Bartolomé, but when asked insistently by the media, he replied that "there are no more formulas to restore stability to the City Council". "We have always said that we wanted a government formation as peaceful as possible and without motions of censure," he added. As it was not possible with the Socialist Party (PSOE), he stressed, "we have to talk to Miguel Martín and tell him that we support him so that this municipality does not come to a standstill". De la Hoz does not doubt that the mayor's line will be to incorporate the councilors of PIL and CC back into the government group.

Olimpia Martín told this editorial staff that she conveyed to the mayor her interest in joining the government group at the moment when all the political forces confirm the reissue of the pact. "I will have to consult with my party, but I think there are no inconveniences," she commented.

The mayor speaks

Miguel Martín broke his silence with the press. The mayor said that the councilors of PIL and CC had resigned from their government responsibilities for political responsibility and complying with the discipline of the formations, however, he positively valued the way the pact had been working before the insular political crisis broke out. In view of the total breakdown of talks with the socialists, Miguel Martín declared that "the most normal thing is to sit down with them between today and tomorrow and form a government group".

It was coming

A few hours before the plenary session, PIL first and then CC, sent press releases with similar content, confirming the distancing from the PSOE and opening the door to new stability initiatives.

Candelaria Ledesma and Carlos Martín spoke out to reject the offer of the Mayoralty made to them by the Socialist Party on Thursday afternoon and above all to state that they feel free to deal with any initiative that guarantees political stability in the municipality. According to the councilors, the political forces signing the pact have had enough time to reach an agreement without it being consolidated.

For its part, CC considered the pact with the socialists in San Bartolomé broken due to the impossibility of bringing together the different opinions in a government formula for the municipality of Ajei. "The differences have increased," says the statement in one of its paragraphs. Consequently, the coalition stated that it gives freedom to other political forces to take the initiatives they deem appropriate to provide the municipality with a stable majority. The socialists, for their part, recalled that they had already warned that the resignations were only a "farce" and spoke of a "movie announced", insisting that the Mayoralty corresponded to them for being the most voted party in San Bartolomé.

More clear, impossible.
