The Civil Guard seizes six illegal fishing traps between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote

The Civil Guard of Fuerteventura has seized six illegal fishing pots, which were anchored in the Bocayna canal, between this island and Lanzarote. The discovery of these nets "of great dimensions" was made by the "Río Duero" Unit service on June 9, as reported by the Benemérita through a statement.

The Civil Guard proceeded to destroy the six fishing pots and released the fish that were trapped in these nets. This action was carried out as a result of the protests of the Fishermen's Association of Corralejo-La Oliva, who denounced the anchoring of these fishing gears in the Bocayna Canal.

Fishing using the fishing pot art is specifically prohibited in this place since September 20, 1968, by article 4 of Royal Decree 2220/1986, regulating fishing gears and modalities in the waters of the Canary Islands fishing ground, due to the need to regulate the different fisheries that take place in the archipelago.
