The Arrecife City Council has presented this Wednesday, in the Property Registry of the capital, the request to register the land of the CEIP La Destila in the name of the local institution. This has been confirmed by the capital's mayor, Cándido Reguera, who pointed out that the aforementioned body already has in its possession the authorization from the Ministry of Education, allowing the capital's Consistory the ownership of the land where this school, which dates back to the 1950s, stands and on which the new center is planned to be built.
This is a definitive step towards the construction of the new school, which has been so demanded by the educational community, even demonstrating on numerous occasions.
Reguera, who has shown his enormous satisfaction for the completion of this long process, has announced that, "with all probability", next Tuesday the extraordinary and urgent plenary session will be held for the approval of the eviction of the houses attached to this central educational center.
In this sense, he explained that the Arrecife City Council has already completed the eviction file of the houses of the CEIP La Destila, which was left on the table in the last extraordinary plenary session of the Corporation, due precisely to the non-receipt of the Government's authorization. "All the neighbors know that I have personally addressed the Ministry of Education, and even some former national deputy colleague, to ask them to expedite this matter, with the aim that the works of the new school were not delayed and, finally, yesterday they authorized us to register that plot", the mayor pointed out.
In addition, the capital's first mayor added that the tenants of the well-known former teachers' houses have already been notified by the City Council to leave these homes.
Eviction of the houses
The capital's mayor assures that this process will be completed "in a few days" and trusts that Education can begin the construction of the new school in the summer.
The intention of the Ministry of Education is to demolish the houses in the summer and build the first classrooms on those lands, so that students do not have to go to other centers. For this, they have a budget of 120,000 euros, as announced by the Deputy Minister of Education, Gonzalo Marrero, on his last visit to the capital's City Council. Subsequently, the works of the new building will begin, which will have capacity for 620 students.
