The San Bartolomé City Council is finalizing the project called “From Mill to Mill”, which defines the urban conditioning of the road that connects the Molino de Don José María Gil (1870) and the Molina de Don Juan Armas Perdomo (1910) and its surroundings.

From the City Council they report that the action that will be carried out “will define a mixed platform paved with stone from the area”, thus redesigning the road “in a single direction of traffic, providing it with wide sidewalks for the transit of pedestrians, street furniture, shade spaces, public lighting and necessary network services and facilities. In addition, they add that “the design of a central square that has garden areas and the presence of a sheet of water, as well as the resurfacing of the access roads to the platform” will be contemplated.

“The mills are a living example of our way of coexistence on all levels, the artisanal work diminished in time, the maintenance of the only active mill on the island of Lanzarote, and the future of the conservation of all that heritage”, they point out from the City Council. For that reason, they explain that the project aims to “facilitate access, walking, contemplation and unite it to the daily use of the neighborhood, which will have a much safer and more comfortable area”.

From the San Bartolomé City Council they add that, with the new provision, “safety and mobility in the use of shared spaces between pedestrians and vehicles is improved and guaranteed”. The approximate area of the action is “4,000 square meters”

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Alexis Tejera, emphasizes “the high heritage value and tourist interest of this area, so this project enhances the uniqueness of the environment through a single platform that unites spaces of high heritage, cultural and ethnographic value, in a transit area towards public facilities of greater neighborhood interest”.

“This area is a fundamental part of the tourist network of the town of San Bartolomé, bringing together in a small space areas of high attraction for those people who seek the roots of this land, linked to buildings of high value, our ethnographic, gastronomic heritage and knowing the current way of life and that of yesteryear”, adds the mayor.

At this moment, the project is “in the process of being drafted so that once completed it can be put out to tender”, according to the Councilor for Urban Planning and Heritage, Marlene Romero.

The San Bartolomé City Council adds that this work will be financed “through the European Regional Development Funds, within the framework of the Conurban Azul Sustainable Development Strategy”.
