The Tías City Council has conveyed to the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands the needs for improvement of the facilities of the CEIP Alcalde Rafael Cedrés school, in the urban center of Tías. "This public school is the oldest in the municipality and this year commemorates its 40th anniversary after its construction and opening," recalls the Consistory.
The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, accompanied by the deputy mayor, Amado Jesús Vizcaíno, visited the facilities this Tuesday together with the island director of Education, Mario Pérez. During the visit they met with the director of the school, David García, who conveyed "the needs and shortcomings" of this center, where currently about 800 students study.
With this working meeting, which was also attended by an architect from the Ministry of Education, the City Council intends that the regional government "assume, charged to the next budgets of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands for 2018, a series of improvements and reforms" that the school needs "due to its age".
In this regard, the Consistory recalls that "current laws prevent city councils from allocating municipal resources to these educational centers for new works or reforms and expansions", and has valued "the good predisposition of the island director to undertake these demands in 2018".
