The Teguise City Council presented this Monday the new material and the new operators of the gardening service in Costa Teguise, after having awarded the conditioning of the green areas to the company Urbaser for a period of two years. The Union for the Conservation of Costa Teguise (UCCT) was in charge of these works until the beginning of 2014.
Although the 14 employees who were subrogated by Urbaser have been working since July, tidying up the gardens of Costa Teguise and also La Villa, Tahíche, as well as all the children's parks in the municipality, it was not until this Monday when the mayor, Oswaldo Betancort, presented the team and the new vehicles in an official act.
"Today we are fulfilling a commitment acquired with the citizens of this town. A commitment in which we began to work from the beginning of this mandate. The resident of Costa Teguise could not continue paying more for the same service", said the mayor, who explained that the municipal cleaning management model had become "obsolete.

A "duplicated" rate in Costa Teguise
Betancort has stated that this system "was useful years ago", when Costa Teguise was not a consolidated residential area. "What we never considered reasonable is that the rate for that service was duplicated in that area, it was not logical and much less fair", indicated the mayor.
For his part, the delegate of the company in Lanzarote, César Arcauz, has assured that Urbaser will improve "the entire irrigation system of Costa Teguise, La Villa and Tahíche". A system that, in his opinion, "must be modernized." The City Council has signed a contract with this company for more than one million euros and the agreement may be extended for one more year depending on the quality of the service.
The Councilor for Cleaning, Parks and Gardens of the City Council of Teguise, Cristi Rodríguez, has expressed her confidence that "in a short time, after a long process, Costa Teguise will return to normal." "In meetings with the neighbors we have communicated the complications, all of them
bureaucratic, that we have had to get here. The positive thing is that we are already responding to the demands of the people whose residence is in Costa Teguise. We work without pause to avoid the deterioration of our parks and our gardens, also to provide a balanced and municipal service", she defended.
