The CEIP Benito Méndez Tarajano continues to bet on the internationalization of teaching. Within the framework of the Erasmus+ program, and as part of its k122 Citizens of the World: Digitalization, Sustainability and Inclusion project co-financed by the European Union, a Lanzarote expedition made up of six students in their final year of Primary school and two teachers, has landed back on the island after completing an enriching week-long stay in Italian lands.

For seven days, the conejera delegation has lived in a different educational environment, sharing desks, games, and experiences with students from the town of Nocera Inferiore. This mobility has not only allowed the 6th graders to practice their linguistic skills, but also to break down borders and discover the common roots that unite these two European cities.

A classroom without walls

The experience has gone far beyond the purely academic. The young men and women "ambassadors" from Benito Méndez have had the opportunity to immerse themselves in Italian culture, learning firsthand about its traditions, its gastronomy, and its historical heritage.

"Seeing how our students develop with autonomy in a different country and create bonds of friendship with children from other realities is the greatest reward of this project," explain the accompanying teachers.

Lanzarote in the heart of Europe

In addition to learning, the Benito Méndez group also acted as cultural guides, carrying a piece of Arrecife and Lanzarote to the reception center. The Erasmus+ program precisely seeks this bidirectional exchange, where the values of tolerance, sustainability, and European citizenship are worked on in practice.

With suitcases full of memories, anecdotes, and new friends, these six male and female students are closing a key stage in their personal development just before making the leap to Secondary Education. For its part, the CEIP Benito Méndez Tarajano consolidates its position as a center open to the world, demonstrating that from a neighborhood in Arrecife one can look, without complexes, to the heart of Europe.
