The Government Council of the Canary Islands has finally approved this Monday the controversial draft of the Land Law, as the Canarian Coalition had announced they would do. Thus, neither the warnings made by the Advisory Council, which reported favorably but with reservations, nor the reservations already publicly expressed by the regional leadership of the PSOE, have stopped this approval.
Now, the document must go to the Parliament of the Canary Islands, which is the one that has the final decision on this Law. It was precisely some socialist members of this Chamber who first publicly expressed their criticism of this project, demanding a pronouncement from the party
Finally, this weekend the Regional Executive Commission of the PSC-PSOE met, which concluded that it is necessary to make "changes" in the text. And they argue that the Advisory Council's report includes recommendations "of notable depth" and that they are not "trivial" issues. However, in the press release sent by the Government of the Canary Islands, reporting on the approval made this Monday, no reference is made to those "recommendations" of the Advisory Council.
It should be remembered that the project had already been approved by the Government Council of the Canary Islands and was then sent to the Advisory Council to issue a report, which is mandatory but not binding. That is, it is mandatory to request it, but it is not to assume its content. Once that report was prepared, which was issued last week, the Canarian Government had to approve the text again, introducing or not changes in the document. That approval has been made this Monday, and now the Law passes into the hands of the Canarian Parliament.
