The president of the Island Council, Manuela Armas, declared this Monday before the microphones of the program "Buenos Días Lanzarote" of Radio Lanzarote that, after nine sentences have come out that annul licenses of hotels and bungalows, thus endorsing the theses of the Cabildo regarding the obligation of all the municipalities of the island to comply with the current PIOT, the Cabildo will have to look at "one by one" each establishment that is outside the Law, because as the president pointed out, "there will be some that can be legalized".
However, Manuela Armas has clarified that there will be some "that we will not be able to legalize in any way" because it cannot be "that those who have broken the rules get away with it." The socialist president has announced that "if at the end of this road a hotel has to be torn down, well, it will be torn down, calmly" just like "any wall of any neighbor" is torn down. The president believes that in society there cannot be the feeling that "the most daring are rewarded, those who do not care about breaking the law".
Sustainability plan
The president explained that the Government Group is immersed in a "global project" to create an island model in which the fundamental line is sustainability. According to Manuela Armas, this plan includes the PIOT and the Special Territorial Plan (PTE), among other aspects, on which work will be done with all sectors of the island, "not only with tourism entrepreneurs, but with all groups." According to the president, to solve the possible differences that arise with the tourism employers in terms of the policy of containment of the territory, "there is dialogue", in relation to the controversy that has arisen among the hotel businessmen the declarations of Manuela Armas on the possibility that hotels whose licenses have been illegalized may fall.
