The Cabildo of Lanzarote will launch the basic and execution project for the restoration of the Puente de las Bolas in Arrecife. To this end, the Island Institution will invest an amount of 388,834.38 euros, which will be used to repair the drawbridge itself, install new lighting in the area and renovate the promenade around the Bridge.

The president of the Island Council, María Dolores Corujo, highlights the need for this work to "reverse the situation of neglect that this historic infrastructure for the capital of Lanzarote has suffered in recent years."

Likewise, Dolores Corujo points out that this action, a Historical Artistic Site of the Castle of San Gabriel, is considered an Asset of Cultural Interest, "so the Corporation has decided to allocate a partida that demonstrates our intention to treat the Puente de las Bolas as a historical reference of the capital."

In the same line, the island councilor of Heritage, Ariagona González, values the cultural and patrimonial interest that the Bridge represents for Arrecife and for the Island, taking into account the large number of visitors that both this and the Castle of San Gabriel have. "Both places are monuments with centuries of history behind them and we have a duty to preserve symbols of Lanzarote's heritage such as the Bridge and the Castle of San Gabriel," says the councilor.

The project proposes the material recovery of the drawbridge deck, sanitizing and protecting the wood to allow it to be raised; the recovery of the bridge's raising and lowering mechanism; and the recovery of the side rails.

It also includes an intervention in the current niches that house the bridge's luminaires. In this sense, the action consists of reducing the space currently existing to place new luminaires of 27x9 cm, filling the remaining space with stones of similar characteristics to the adjacent ones.

In addition, the Cabildo points out that a parallel project has been developed with criteria of integration at a heritage level and of historical elements, with the specialized contracting in lighting of historical monuments.
