The Cabildo of Lanzarote is currently advancing in the implementation of new modernization projects for the facilities of the Ciudad Deportiva de Lanzarote. As a "most outstanding" measure, the Department of Sports has initiated the administrative procedures to put out to tender in the first quarter of 2023 the replacement of the artificial turf of the soccer field, together with the renovation of the pavement on the athletics track that surrounds the playing field.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, has stressed the need to invest around 1.5 million euros to undertake "these and other works" - such as improving the lighting system - that will "add quality to the sports practice of federated soccer players and athletes, in addition to the thousands of spectators who attend the main stadium of the island's capital every week."
These interventions are becoming "very necessary" since "a decade will have passed since the installation of the previous carpet".
For his part, the councilor, Alfredo Mendoza, places the forecast for the start of the works by the successful bidder in the coming summer. "The renovation of the synthetic turf, which will involve the improvement of the specificities of this surface approved for national competitions, is accompanied previously by the acquisition of about 500 seats for the stadium's grandstand, which has also deteriorated over the years and will be a reality in a few weeks," details the island's Sports councilor.
New pavements and video scoreboards
The investments announced by the Institution chaired by María Dolores Corujo for the Ciudad Deportiva de Lanzarote during 2023 include in the first months of the year "the placement of modern electronic Led video scoreboards on the playing fields of this large venue, on the soccer field and in the covered pavilion of the IES Blas Cabrera Felipe, a few meters away."
"And with the aim of facilitating quality infrastructures also for all practitioners of the many disciplines that meet at the Ciudad Deportiva," clarifies María Dolores Corujo, "Deportes del Cabildo has already awarded the purchase of several fencing tracks, which will be demountable, and four other pavements for the daily development of badminton practice", actions that should be completed in the first quarter of next year, according to the planning of the Island Corporation.
