The Cabildo has presented the training-labor project "Lanzarote Integral", which will provide employment for six months and enable 120 unemployed young people under 30 years of age from all the island's municipalities to obtain the ESO certificate. In addition, four teachers and six technicians will be hired.
"Lanzarote Integral" has a budget of 770,000 euros, contributed between the Employment Area (425,495 euros) and the Canarian Employment Service, through a subsidy of 344,505 euros. This project is aimed at young people without basic education, and has been configured so that 40 percent of the time (15 hours) can be spent studying to obtain the ESO certificate or an equivalent qualification. The circumstance is that 50 percent of the unemployed in Lanzarote lack this basic qualification.
"Lanzarote Integral" is a project for the conditioning and environmental improvement of the natural spaces of the island of Lanzarote. Therefore, this will be the purpose of the work that the 120 agricultural or construction laborers selected for this project will carry out during the remaining 22.5 hours.
Its activity is divided into five variants such as "Lanzarote primario", which will be developed in the facilities of La Granja Experimental del Cabildo and which will consist of field and livestock work; "Lanzarote Vial" for road maintenance; "Lanzarote litoral" for the care of beaches and the coast; "Lanzarote preventiva" for the adaptation of natural channels and ravines; and "Lanzarote Sostenible" for the maintenance of natural spaces.
Double objective: social and environmental
According to the Cabildo, the implementation of this project is based "on a double need, social and environmental." On the one hand, the Cabildo has highlighted that "paid work is provided for a time and training to a group that has been greatly harmed by the economic crisis", while on the other hand, "the greatest wealth of this island, which is its nature, is cared for, cleaned and valued".
It will intervene in the seven municipalities of the island, which will in turn be divided into six fields of action to which a certain number of teachers, technicians, officials and laborers will be assigned depending on the needs of each project. Likewise, the young people who take part in the "Lanzarote Integral" project will receive basic notions on safety and risk prevention before undertaking their respective tasks.
With this project, the Cabildo intends to improve "the quality of life of the residents of the island and, in particular, of the users of the intervened spaces", to raise awareness among citizens towards "more responsible behaviors", to improve training by the contracted workers and to increase the employment possibilities of these people with experience and training.
