The Cabildo of Lanzarote approved this Wednesday in the Extraordinary Plenary the rectification and update of the General Inventory of Assets and Rights of the Island Institution, which had remained unrevised since 2016. This measure, supported unanimously, will unlock the processing of files linked to the transfer of land to the Government of the Canary Islands for housing projects.

The President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted that "from the beginning of the legislature we committed to having the inventory updated since without this tool it is impossible to advance in urban agreements and the implementation of island-wide projects. This approval represents a milestone in management," he stated.

The Housing Councilor, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, recalled that the lack of inventory updates had been a hindrance in various procedures. "When the file for the transfer of the 42 homes acquired in Yaiza and several plots of land to the Canarian Housing Institute (ICAVI) was initiated, the technical department warned of the impossibility of continuing as the documentation was obsolete. Faced with this situation, the Inventory team undertook an exhaustive work in recent months to update all the corporation's asset records," he explained.

With the plenary approval of this rectification, the Cabildo fulfills one of the essential prior steps to transfer public land to the Autonomous Executive and thus contribute to the construction of new homes on the island. The Housing Council emphasizes that updating the inventory was not only an administrative requirement but also an indispensable condition to address the growing residential demand that Lanzarote is experiencing.
