From the Environment and Biosphere Reserve councils of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, with the collaboration of the Education and Waste areas, "a pilot project has been initiated to install vermicomposters in educational centers with the help of the students, who will be in charge of assembling them", as they advance.
"The initiative started this week in La Graciosa and is expected to reach a dozen educational centers throughout the year", with the possibility of "expanding to more in the future if, as expected, it is positive", they confirm.
"The objective is to manage the bio-waste generated in the school to transform it into resources for the school garden"
The objective of this project "is to manage the bio-waste generated in the school or in homes to transform it into resources for the school garden and learn to carry out adequate waste management", explains the Minister of Environment and Biosphere Reserve, Nicolás Saavedra.

"This experience will allow the transmission of knowledge about sustainable lifestyles and reflection on a practice that implies a concern for the environment and for knowing how its regeneration mechanisms work," adds Saavedra.
Vermicomposting will involve the entire educational community, resulting in "a very useful tool for the social and environmental education of the entire population".
"It will allow us to discover the cycle of organic matter and learn to identify the usefulness of our waste, thus understanding the need for responsible consumption and recycling and favoring the development of environmental awareness in students", concludes the Councilor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote.
