The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through its Road Safety Education Service (SEV), has reactivated the program "Friendly Cities, Health and Care" since last month. This program aims to encourage walking in accessible, friendly and safe urban environments for the inhabitants of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. This initiative includes innovative projects such as La Brújula, Barrios Vivos and Caminos Activos y Saludables, which promote walking routes and mindfulness and virtual reality workshops in the different municipalities.

The councilor responsible for the Road Safety Education Service, Aroa Revelo, states that "sustainable mobility is an essential pillar to improve the physical and emotional well-being of our community, and through these projects we encourage citizens to actively participate in the development of more accessible and environmentally friendly cities and towns."

One of the pillars of the program is the project La Brújula. Shared experience, which seeks to improve the autonomy of the elderly through guided walking tours and mindfulness workshops in public spaces of Lanzarote. More than a hundred participants have already enjoyed these walks and outdoor activities, promoting connection with urban spaces such as squares, parks and promenades.

Barrios Vivos and Caminos Activos y Saludables

In addition, the Cabildo has launched two initiatives in Arrecife: the Barrios Vivos project, focused on local associations to promote health through walks and mindfulness workshops in the neighborhood environment, and "Caminos Activos y Saludables", a free activity for all citizens that will be held next Friday, November 22 at 5:00 p.m..

This activity includes three simultaneous routes that will depart from different educational centers in Arrecife such as the Pancho Lasso School of Art, IFPMP of Arrecife (Fishing School) and the Official School of Languages and will conclude at the Socio-Cultural Center of Los Alonso, where participants will reflect on the architectural barriers and accessibility in the capital.

In this sense, Councilor Aroa Revelo points out that these activities "represent a joint effort to open our cities and towns to the active participation of citizens in the design and development of more inclusive environments. We want everyone, from the youngest to our elders, to feel part of the change towards a friendlier city."

Also, as part of the day of November 22, two workshops will also be given. The first will be virtual reality, in which attendees can explore Arrecife in an immersive way, in order to experience, first-hand, the importance of an inclusive environment. While the second will be a laughter therapy workshop, an activity that contributes to emotional well-being.

From the Cabildo of Lanzarote, we thank the collaboration of the Departments of Social Services of the City Councils of Arrecife, Teguise, Tinajo, Haría, Tías and Yaiza, in the implementation of these activities that contribute to the development of a healthier, friendlier and more inclusive urban environment.
