The Cabildo of Lanzarote has presented to the municipalities of the island a platform called TaxiLanzarote.net, which they can voluntarily join and which will allow "a more efficient management through the automatic allocation of services", as well as "minimizing waiting times".
In addition, its promoters ensure that this system will help keep the user informed in real time and the creation of joint provision areas between municipalities, among other measures.
The president of the corporation, Oswaldo Betancort, and the councilors Domingo Cejas and Miguel Ángel Jiménez have held a meeting with the municipalities to analyze joint strategies in order to guarantee a public taxi service with greater quality and efficiency.
Municipal officials "have highly valued the measures provided by the first corporation", according to sources from the Cabildo.
The meeting analyzed the current situation of the public taxi service. "Our commitment is clear: to work together with the municipalities and the sector, joining efforts, to have an agile, safe and quality public transport system in Lanzarote. We have detected problems in demand management in critical moments and we are going to put concrete solutions on the table", said Betancort.
The new Minister of Transport and Mobility, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, highlighted "the need for greater island coordination and the implementation of corrective measures to optimize the service".
"It is essential to strengthen communication between administrations and professionals in the sector to avoid collapse in times of high demand, we want to implement new measures, such as this comprehensive platform that allows a better distribution of taxis in sensitive areas of the island and ensure that users receive an efficient service", he said.
The Cabildo believes that, with this new tool, "the taxi sector will gain in efficiency and competitiveness, giving an immediate response to the user in each municipality".
"This initiative will allow a better planning of the service, facilitating the mobility of both residents and tourists and contributing to a more sustainable and coordinated management of public transport in Lanzarote", assures the island corporation.
