The Cabildo of Lanzarote already has the final project for the Playa Honda Urban Park after making several modifications and finally obtaining the favorable report from the College of Architects of Lanzarote.
As explained by the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, “once the approval has been obtained from the College, there is no impediment to establishing the corresponding inter-administrative cooperation with the San Bartolomé City Council and the procedures can be carried out to tender the execution of the work.”
The Playa Honda Urban Park has a budget of 2,323,162.43 euros (plus taxes), which will be 85% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the ERDF POPE 2014-2020, within the framework of the operation “Multi-purpose space for social coexistence in Playa Honda. Peri-urban Park” of the EDUSI Strategy, whose thematic objective is the rehabilitation of degraded spaces. The EDUSI funds are part of the Conurban Azul Strategy for urban quality and social cohesion in the municipalities of San Bartolomé, Arrecife and Teguise, with a total amount of almost 12 million euros.
The CEO of the Public Works area, Jacobo Medina, points out that “the proposal proposes an area of action of 69,258 square meters in the front and rear esplanade of the IES of Playa Honda and the soccer field and aims to be a regeneration space that will transform this area into a meeting point for all types of activities and for all types of people.
“The spaces”, Medina adds, “will have abundant vegetation and will be well defined, complementing each other with a large multi-purpose space in which to organize events.”
