The Plenary Session of the Cabildo of Lanzarote approved this Thursday, with the unanimous support of all the political forces represented, a motion presented by the Canarian Coalition Group in which AENA is urged to immediately proceed with the removal of the advertising totem located at the entrance of the César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport, as well as to undertake urgent improvements in the maintenance of the landscaped areas of the site.

The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, has clarified that “the hallmarks of Lanzarote and La Graciosa are defended with actions, not with empty speeches. This Cabildo, in unity, has demonstrated today its commitment to aesthetic coherence, respect for our landscape and the image we project to the world from our main gateway.”

The spokesperson for the Canarian Coalition in the Cabildo, Jesús Machín, who defended the motion before the Plenary, recalled that “the César Manrique Airport is not only a transport infrastructure, it is the first visual impact received by the millions of visitors who arrive each year to Lanzarote. We cannot allow this reception to be tarnished by an advertising totem that breaks with the visual harmony and aesthetic philosophy that has always inspired this island.”

“The installation of this totem, completely alien to the visual language that we defend as a Biosphere Reserve and legacy of César Manrique, constitutes an error that must be corrected without further delay”, said Machín, who also denounced the “clearly deficient” state of maintenance of the airport gardens.

The approved motion demands that AENA take immediate action on both issues: the elimination of said advertising element and a comprehensive improvement plan in the green areas of the airport, which show obvious signs of neglect.

From the Island Council, a call is made to AENA to respond with responsibility and sensitivity to this unanimous demand of the society of Lanzarote, transferred today clearly through the highest body of island representation.
