The Cabildo of Lanzarote approved, during the Governing Council held this Thursday, the nomination of direct subsidies to the town councils of the island for the development of the Municipal Employment Plan, endowed with a total amount of 1,144,469.61 euros.
"These subsidies will be used to launch job-generating projects that will, on the one hand, respond to the economic and social difficulties faced by certain groups and family units that are in a situation of social exclusion or at risk of being so, and, on the other hand, boost employment and reactivation by carrying out works or services of general or social interest in the municipalities of the island,” the Cabildo points out.
“The current socio-economic context makes it necessary for public administrations to collaborate in order to launch a series of actions aimed at offering employment opportunities, tackling the unemployment situation and recovering sustainable and inclusive growth,” says the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo.
In this sense, the Minister of Employment of the island corporation, Jorge Peñas, points out that “although the unemployment figures on the island were reduced in the second quarter of the year, we are still faced with worrying data”. “Therefore, facilitating the labor insertion of unemployed people, especially the most vulnerable groups”, is a priority”, he adds.
In addition, Peñas highlights that the works and services carried out through the municipal employment plans “will not only have a positive impact on employability, but also on the improvement of the quality of life of the island's population.”
Distribution of funds
Specifically, each municipality will receive a fixed amount of 50,000 euros, while the rest of the funds will be distributed proportionally among the town councils according to the number of unemployed people residing in each of the municipalities.
Thus, the City Council of Arrecife will receive a total of 653,175 euros, while the City Council of Haría will receive 89,560 euros and the City Council of San Bartolomé 176,500. The amount of the subsidy will be 179,375 euros for the City Council of Teguise, 172,015 euros for the City Council of Tías, 88,514.61 euros for the City Council of Tinajo, and 135,330 euros for the City Council of Yaiza.
A “great investment effort”
The Minister of Employment of the Cabildo recalls that the institution also recently approved allocating 2.5 million euros to the town councils for the development of a 'Green and Social Employment Plan' charged to the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN).
“All the agreements on employment will be signed shortly with the town councils, both those of the Municipal Employment Plan and those of the Green and Social Employment Plan,” says Jorge Peñas, who underlines the “great investment effort” of the department he directs to promote employment in collaboration with local corporations.
