The Cabildo of Lanzarote has announced that "for the first time in history", the municipalities of the island will receive 9 million euros included in the Municipal Cooperation Plan 2021, financed by the Island Corporation.
“This is the largest Municipal Cooperation Plan in history, which will provide local corporations with a large investment at a key moment to boost the island's economy and promote job creation, which is so necessary,” said the president, María Dolores Corujo.
In this regard, the Cabildo points out that the budget for the year 2021 "includes in the Annex of Subsidies the Municipal Cooperation Plan for a total amount of 9 million euros, a historical figure, to subsidize the projects drafted by the City Councils to improve the infrastructures of the seven Lanzarote municipalities".
“It is evident that, given the situation of enormous economic crisis that we are suffering on our island due to Covid-19, local corporations have suffered a considerable decrease in their income and, therefore, from the Cabildo we have made a greater effort to increase the economic items allocated to this Municipal Cooperation Plan, the result of dialogue and consensus with the seven city councils,” says Corujo.
For his part, the Minister of Public Works, Planning and Project Coordination, Jacobo Medina, announces that he has already transferred to the respective City Councils the request for them to “present the projects linked to the 2021 Cooperation Plan within a month, which will not only improve the infrastructure, equipment and public services of the municipalities, but will also generate greater investment, which will undoubtedly favor job creation, at a time when it is so necessary.”
