The Cabildo of Lanzarote brought together technicians from the island's town councils this Wednesday to structure the constitution of the Island Intersectoral Coordination Table of the Health Promotion and Prevention Strategy.
The purpose of this forum promoted by the Social Welfare Area is to coordinate actions that allow "improving living conditions, strengthening ties and social cohesion, as well as enhancing both individual and collective capacities of the population in the processes of improving health and well-being".
The Minister of Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, who chaired this Wednesday's meeting at the Cabildo headquarters, assured at the end that "this coordination tool between administrations is important to design actions that allow promoting health in Lanzarote and La Graciosa". He also thanked the town councils that have joined this Table for their positive integration.
Acuña stated that "from here, a period opens in which we will work together to integrate and improve all levels of mental and physical health, in all age groups, both in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, with special attention to the elderly and young people".
The Minister has also recalled that the Corporation chaired by Oswaldo Betancort joined the Health Promotion and Prevention Strategy in the National Health System (SNS) last April. "This fact has been an important step for the promotion and improvement of health in the community," he said.
Objectives of the Intersectoral Table
One of the points to be discussed at this first meeting was the commitment to hold an island meeting where the community work and the care policy are valued. The initial forecast is that these conferences can be held next November.
On the other hand, Marci Acuña has pointed out that public administrations, together with professional resources and citizens, are "fundamental" in the development of these community processes, as they are the promoters of planning and the resources that facilitate the participation of different groups.
As established by the general guidelines set by this state health and prevention strategy, the Island Table promoted by the Cabildo of Lanzarote, will continue to add sessions to address different issues with the aim of improving the integral well-being of the Lanzarote and Graciosa community.
In this forum that is now beginning to roll, the experts will address the promotion of the health strategy in all municipalities, as well as the sharing of local projects that promote health. The necessary reports to guide the actions will also be put on the table.
Likewise, the Table must promote training actions on community health and technical tools that facilitate its implementation in the municipalities.
To achieve these and other objectives, the Island Intersectoral Coordination Table of Lanzarote is an open body for the participation of those actors who provide resources and tools to achieve new goals, which necessarily has a multidisciplinary inspiration.
