The Cabildo of Lanzarote has presented this week the new vehicles destined to reinforce the services and centers dependent on the Area of Social Welfare and Inclusion, an acquisition co-financed by the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN).

"This investment manages to renew the existing vehicle fleet since it presented a high degree of obsolescence and a high maintenance cost, affecting the quality of the service offered to the citizens", as explained by the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort. “With this incorporation of new vehicles, we guarantee a better service for the users of the centers and resources of the Area; while reducing the carbon footprint”, he stated.

The vehicles acquired have been eight, after a tender that contemplated three supply lots, for a total amount of 252,228.72 euros. The Institution has acquired a total of eight vehicles. To date, the vehicles corresponding to Lot 1 and Lot 3 have been delivered by the awarding company, with those corresponding to Lot II pending for the coming dates. This Wednesday, three nine-seater vans and two five-seater SUVs have been presented.

The vice president and councilor of the Planning and Project Coordination Unit, María Jesús Tovar, has assured that this acquisition "is part of the Cabildo's commitment to the modernization of public resources and the strengthening of the social care system in Lanzarote and La Graciosa."

According to the councilor of Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, "the incorporation of these new vehicles contributes to improving the mobility and efficiency of the services destined to social inclusion, reinforcing the support to groups in situations of vulnerability."

The new vehicles will be distributed among different services and centers, such as the Don Julio Santiago Obeso Psychosocial Rehabilitation Unit (URPS), Housing Resources for Women Victims of Gender Violence (RAM), Addiction Care Unit (UAA), Residential Addiction Care Unit (URAA), Semi-Residential Addiction Care Unit (USAA) and other specialized services of the department.

The vehicles acquired comply with the European regulations for the reduction of polluting emissions and are equipped with technology that improves the efficiency and sustainability of transport.

Vehicles for maintenance

In addition, together with these vehicles that reinforce the services of the Area of Social Welfare and Inclusion, the Cabildo has also acquired three low-emission vans for the Internal Regime Service, with the objective of facilitating the transfer of operators and tools to different facilities on the island for maintenance work.

The supply contract, with a cost of 91,197.55 euros, has been co-financed 80% by the FDCAN and 20% by the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
